The general notion about high school football on the North Shore is that you can’t bank on a passing attack for the entire season because the weather is too brutal for the final few games. The fourth ranked Masconomet Chieftains were knocked out of the Division 1 North state soccer playoffs this afternoon by No. 5 Lincoln-Sudbury, 2-0, in Topsfield.
The Masco boys had their season end with a 15-3-2 record.
We’re not familiar with the term “fourth time’s a charm”. But if it does indeed exist, the
Masconomet Chieftains hope it comes into play this Friday night.
For the fourth time in three seasons, Masconomet will be looking to take down the North Shore’s premier football program: the Fighting Fishermen of Gloucester High.
Three times — including twice [...]

We couldn’t squeeze this into Friday’s newspaper, so here’s a capsule look at each of this weekend’s North Shore football matchups, starting with tonight’s games:
Intent on proving it’s a serious contender in 2009, Marblehead faces its first test against one of the Northeastern Conference’s big boys when Lynn Classical comes to Piper Field (7 p.m.). [...]
Who’s blocking?
The two-time defending CAL Large champion Chieftains have the horses to make a run at a three-peat, starting with QB-RB combo Chris Splinter and Evan Bunker. A lot of area teams don’t have one guy with the tools this pair brings to the table, much less two.
But gridiron afficionados know that the foundation of [...]
QBs to watch in 2009: Chris Splinter, Masco
Posted in Football, Masconomet on Aug 16th, 2009 Comments
Is there a more anticipated senior year this fall than that of Masconomet quarterback Chris Splinter?
Entering his third year under center for the Chieftains, Splinter completed the trifecta of Cape Ann League Large MVP awards last year, taking the hardware in football, basketball and baseball. He is among the most heralded athletes of the class [...]
A breakout junior year puts Evan Bunker atop the list of local running backs to watch in 2009. Along with dynamite partner in crime Chris Splinter, Bunker will be the focal point of the Masco offense again in ‘09 as the Chieftains look to get back to the playoffs.
Bunker ran for 1200 yards in ‘08 [...]
Coming off a sensational freshman season at RPI, Dan Duval has joined the North Shore Navigators of the NECBL.
A very strong bullpen man for RPI, Duval helps the Navs at a time when 10 games in the next 12 days, followed by 12 more in the 14 days after the all-star break. That sheer volume [...]

Posted in Bishop Fenwick, Lacrosse, Masconomet on Jun 3rd, 2009 Comments
Bishop Fenwick’s scoring machine Bridget Dullea and Masconomet’s Sydney Godett were each named to the Honorable Mention list of the Massachusetts coaches all-state lacrosse team, released this morning.
Another name on the list our readers might remember is North Andover’s Jenn Pino, who was named to the All-State second team. A three-sport dynamo, Pino was a [...]
Two area heavyweights were unceremoniously bounced from the MIAA baseball tourney this weekend, and Masconomet and Peabody each suffered losses in their very first postseason games.
The Tanners lost to the No. 22 seed at home for the second straight season (losing to Newton North in a play-in last year), and the defending D2 North champion [...]
