I had a chance to speak with New Orleans Saints assistant coach Mike Cerullo of Middleton recently, and he spoke about his unbeaten team’s highly-anticipated matchup with the Patriots tonight at the Superdome.
“They’ve got a proven formula that works in the NFL, and they’ve perfected it,” said the former Masconomet football standout. “They’ve got a great group of guys in that locker room, and that goes a long way towards (on-field) success.
“Our organization is similar to the Patriots in that we’ve got a team with a lot of great character guys on it.”
An unabashed Patriots fan his entire life, Cerullo has seen plenty of film on New England and quickly dismisses the notion that they are simply a three-man team made up of superstars Tom Brady at quarterback and Randy Moss and Wes Welker at wide receiver.
“It’s not just three guys; their whole organization is great,” Cerullo said.
Tonight is one of the biggest games in Saints history, one they hope will be a measuring stick for themselves and how they’ll ultimately fare this season.
“If we want to be the best,” said Cerullo, “we have to beat the best.”
