The Ipswich High football team has lost 27 straight games, including six in a row this season, but the Tigers’ longtime nightmare has a reasonable chance of ending this week.
In a confrontation of evenly-matched Cape Ann League teams, Ipswich travels to 0-5 Georgetown Friday for a 3:30 p.m. game (note the schedule change due to a forecast of rain for Saturday).
Coach Ted Flaherty’s Ipswich team struggled mightily on offense in its first five games, but last week the Tigers showed some scoring ability in a 50-28 loss to a solid Manchester Essex team. Ipswich and Georgetown have scored an equal number of points, 34, but the Tigers have giving up a whopping 217 points on defense. If Ipswich can get its act together on the defensive side, it can win this game.
Ipswich has something else going for it: a hungry heart. Check out the original Hungry Heart here (notice the man in the green sweatshirt hoisting the famous singer at about the 2:55 mark).
