The Ipswich High softball team took it as a great omen earlier this week when career all-star Kerry Desmond was back on the mound against Wayland in the Division 3 North Tournament.
Desmond, who has had a shoulder problem since early in the season, pitched the first two innings as the Tigers destroyed Wayland, 20-3.

Coach Jane Heil’s Peabody High girls basketball team always sends its student-athletes to some top notch colleges, and this year’s graduating class is no exception.

Shortly after celebrating its first state tourney berth since 1999 recently, the Salem High a softball team took a big hit when it learned that centerfielder Erica Mendez broke a foot while playing soccer. Mendez has exceptional speed and was hitting .320. She is not expected to return.

There is one thing the Beverly boys lacrosse team from 2003 has in common with the St. John’s Prep lacrosse team of 2009. Both beat very good Duxbury teams.
In fact, Duxbury went unbeaten in Massachusetts for nearly six years. The bookend losses? You guessed it, Beverly and St. John’s. Beverly defeated Duxbury in ‘03, 8-7, [...]
