Pingree set to face the real deal in Jordan Johnson

The Pingree football team will play Brooks Academy in the Clark-Francis Bowl Saturday afternoon at Endicott College (1:30 p.m.).

Northeast Hospital lays off 22

Northeast Hospital laid off 22 people on Tuesday. The company includes Beverly Hospital, Addison-Gilbert in Gloucester, BayRidge in Lynn, and Beverly Hospital’s medical center in Danvers.  More in tomorrow’s Salem News.

Locals named All-NESCAC in football

A trio of Northeastern Conference Small alums earned All-Nescac honors on the gridiron this fall.
Beverly grad Pat Bailey was named to the all-league second team as a running back for Tufts and also earned a spot as a return specialist.
Also for the Jumbos, Danvers’ Alex Perry earned a second team nod at defensive back.

Recycling still on the rise

The city continues its amazing progress in recycling, Mayor Bill Scanlon told the City Council last night.
Scanlon said the city reduced the amount of trash it produced by 8 percent in October compared to October of 2008. Recycling has improved every month this year over last year, he said.

Coach Steve Sawyer’s Hamilton-Wenham runners took their fifth straight Division 4 EMass title Saturday at Franklin Park, aided by strong races by Kristen Ashley (runner-up) and Emily Senning (third overall). Cyrena Shiland was ninth and Kerry Phelan 13th to round out the top four for the Generals.
