Dick n Jane won a Radio 92.9 (WBOS) contest to become the opening act on the Washington Street main stage Saturday night. They take the stage around 7:30 p.m.

Two live cover bands will perform on a 24-foot folding stage on Washington Street on Saturday night. The opening act, Dick n Jane, won a contest hosted by Radio 92.9 FM to find “Boston’s best cover band.” They plan an hour-and-15-minute set before The Dancing Nancy Band, a Dave Matthews cover act, takes the stage.

Dick n Jane member Mark Carey said the band has four different vocalists and a changeable sound.

“We can play songs from Journey to Black Eyed Peas to Lynyrd Skynyrd to Kings of Leon,” Carey said in an interview this afternoon.

Dick n Jane takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Here are some excerpts from the interview with Carey:

What should the crowd expect Saturday night?

We promise to give them a taste of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” It’ll be everything from “Sweet Home Alabama” to old-school rap to “99 Red Balloons.” We’re going to change it up. It’s a party atmosphere and that’s what we create. We’re big into the ’80s.

Have you ever been here on Halloween night?

We’ve never been to Salem on Halloween. We don’t know what to expect, and we’re looking forward to that. …

This is the best place to want to play. This is the world headquarters of all things Halloween. It’s a great thing for us.

You’ll play in front of mobs of dressed-up witches and vampires and monsters. Will that be a little strange?

We play some pretty funky night clubs, so this will be a little tamer. … We’ve played for some pretty freaky people…

We’ve been a regular down on Newport, R.I. all summer long. We play some Boston clubs like Ned Devine’s, the Harp, Paddy O’s, all those places.

How would you describe Dick n Jane?

The band is completely different from most of the cover bands out there. It’s all about the energy, the thick harmonies. There are two girls in the band who are really pretty and incredibly great singers. We put on a show from beginning to end.

We’re all local. Lori (Trespicio) is from out of town. She was on MTV’s “Real World” in 2001. … Shayna (Ross) is one of the best singers I’ve ever heard.

Where’d the name come from?

When you try to come up with a band name you think of everything from Dog Breath to everything else. We told the girls to figure it out and they did. It stuck.

People call us Jack and Jill, but we’re Dick n Jane.
