It’s says something about the sad state of the Massachusetts Republican Party that an also-ran in last fall’s 5th District congressional election can be touted as a credible opponent for incumbent U.S. Sen. John Kerry.

Not that it’s been all smooth sailing for Niki Tsongas.
This morning (Friday), the Democratic candidate moved quickly to distance herself from comments supporter Chet Atkins made to the Associated Press implying that Republican Jim Ogonowski’s stand on immigration was motivated by racism and would not have been supported by his brother, John, who was the [...]

State Treasurer Tim Cahill is expected to endorse Niki Tsongas’ candidacy for Congress at a press conference in Lowell today.
Cahill’s nod adds to the air of inevitability the brains behind the Tsongas campaign have sought to give her bid almost since the day she entered the race for Marty Meehan’s seat. And the strategy appears [...]

The Democratic candidates in the race for Marty Meehan’s seat in Congress have shared the stage so often, any one of them could probably recite another’s stock lines.
That’s not the case over on the Republican side where Tom Tierney has appeared a half-dozen times with the Democrats but, according to him, has yet to meet [...]
