Schetzsle running for state rep?

Is Beverly Republican City Committee member Brett Schetzsle running for state representative? It looks like it, according to an entry last week on the North Shore Young Republicans blog.

Former mayor recalls Kennedy humor

Former mayor Jack Monahan checked in yesterday with his remembrances of Ted Kennedy.
Monahan said he and Neil Desmond, then chairman of the city’s Harbor Authority, traveled to Washington in the late ’60s seeking federal money to dredge the harbor. When they visited Kennedy, Monahan jokingly asked Desmond if he could set up a “courtesy mooring” [...]

Cummings Center adds life sciences company

A life sciences company called BioHelix Corp. is moving into the Cummings Center.
Former New England Biolabs scientist Huimin Kong, shown here,  founded BioHelix in 2004.
The company develops “cost-effective, instrument-free nucleic acid tests,” according to a press release. It is now concentrating on diagnostic tests for  infectious diseases such as staph infections, HIV and STDs.

Lobster Boat Races ‘best ever’

In case you missed it, here are the results for the 14th annual Lobster Boat Races held earlier this month as part of Homecoming.  Deputy Harbormaster Michael Henebury said it was the best race in the history of the event “by far.”

Beverly soldier earns medal

Beverly native Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Doherty, far right in photo, is shown receiving an Army Achievement Medal in a ceremony before his unit shipped off to Iraq.
Doherty is a member of the 101st Financial Management Detachment, which has been in Iraq since June.
