While Army Spc. Stephen Fortunato’s body returned home to Beverly yesterday, a similar scene played out in Center, Texas. Spc. Cory Bertrand, who died along with Fortunato and Sgt. Preston Medley of Florida in the explosion in Afghanistan, was also returned home. KTRE.com has a video of the ceremony.

The City Council last night approved spending $1.5 million on improvements at the city-owned Beverly Golf and Tennis Club, as well as the waterfront parking changes designed to require fewer parking spaces for the proposed Black Cow restaurant. The plan to install quieter bells at five railroad crossings is now official. The City Council this week unanimously approved the proposal to spend $35,000 on the new bells at Congress Street, Kittredge Crossing, North Beverly and the two crossings near the Montserrat train station.
